Eco-Friendly Bathroom Furniture and Fixtures
At Modern Bathroom, we are proud to offer eco-friendly bathroom remodeling products that feature sustainable materials and water-saving technologies. Environmentally-friendly bathroom fixtures help safeguard our planet and its resources, while some can save you money in the long term through lower water usage.
Watersense Faucets, Shower Heads and Toilets
Watersense is an EPA program that establishes guidelines for water consumption. Therefore, if a faucet, shower head or toilet is labeled Watersense, it means that the product uses less water than similar non-Watersense products. Though many products are considered to be "low-flow", not all are labeled Watersense due to the time it takes for a product to earn the Watersense label.
Rebates for purchasing Watersense and other low-flow products are sometimes offered by state governments - check with your state's environmental agency for further information on rebates that may be available to you.
Many of our products utilize sustainable materials in their construction, from sustainably-harvested wood to recycled or re-used materials.
FSC-Certified Wood is wood that has been harvested from a sustainably-managed forest. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), and the independent 3rd party certification groups it licenses to monitor forest management policies, also ensure that FSC-certified wood has a controlled supply chain that allows tracking from the source to the final product. FSC-certified wood is available on a variety of bathroom vanities in the Modern Bathroom and Wyndham Collection® lines.
Caesarstone is environmentally friendly in a whole array of ways. CaesarStone recycles and reuses the waste materials generated during manufacturing, so waste and pollutants are kept to a minimum. They are certified by several independent green programs. Several of their colors utilize recycled glass. CaesarStone is the first quartz surfacing company to receive ISO 14001 certification - a global standard created specifically for environmental protection, from recycling 97% of the water used in manufacturing, to collecting dust from shipping, handling, production and processing. They are certified by the “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” (LEED) and “Scientific Certification Systems” (SCS) standards, and their headquarters in Israel have been utilizing sustainable solutions for the past twenty years. In addition, CaesarStone is much stronger than marble or granite, resistant to scratches, heat, stains (except the honed options), cracks, cleaning products, and mold and mildew. It is nonabsorbent and nonporous, color-consistent and comes with a lifetime warranty. Caesarstone is available as a counter top option or vanity base on a range of Modern Bathroom vanities. See item pages for details and pricing.
Vetrazzo is a man-made material manufactured from recycled glass. The glass is sourced from curbside recycling programs, demolition sites, old car windshields and other glass that would otherwise end up in a landfill. The company tracks the origin of all glass used and even provide a certificate detailing where the glass in your countertop originated. Vetrazzo is certified by or a member of several "green" programs, and using Vetrazzo can quality your project for LEED certification. Vetrazzo is available on our Eclipse line of bathroom vanities.
Low Lead Faucets
Lead can be dangerous to humans when ingested in high levels, and when disposed of, lead has a negative impact on the environment. Recently passed laws in California (AB-1953) and Vermont (Act 193) mandate that faucets used to dispense drinking water must contain no more than 0.25% lead. Therefore, manufacturers of kitchen and bathroom faucets are in the process of phasing out their older high-lead products and replacing them with new low-lead versions. All Danze faucets we sell are now low-lead and we are adding Toto low-lead faucets as they become available from the manufacturer.
